SCOUT® localization placement

SCOUT – IMPROVING BREAST SURGERY

When a mammogram or other breast imaging test reveals a tumor that can’t be felt manually, SCOUT® wire-free radar localization provides leading-edge technology to mark the area for lumpectomy or surgical biopsy. SCOUT is a tiny rice-sized implant that your RAO breast specialist places at the tumor site to guide your surgeon directly to the area(s) being treated, for unparalleled accuracy. Unlike wire localization, SCOUT can be inserted a day or more before surgery to avoid scheduling conflicts, which can delay treatment.

WHERE IS SCOUT OFFERED?

RAO offers SCOUT placement at our Women’s Imaging Center. All SCOUT surgeries are performed at AdventHealth Ocala, a trusted partner.

WHAT TO EXPECT

After numbing your skin with a local anesthetic, your RAO radiologist will use mammography or ultrasound imaging to insert the SCOUT implant into the area requiring treatment. Once it has been placed, you won’t feel the implant and can resume normal activities. On the day of surgery, your surgeon will scan the affected breast with a specialized radiation-free radar signal to locate the implant, enabling accurate tissue removal.
