OCALA, FLORIDA (September, 2017) – Radiology Associates of Ocala (RAO) has announced that it will be adding another doctor to its team of Board Certified radiologists. Diagnostic and vascular & interventional radiologist, Jaime L. Abesada, MD, will become RAO’s newest member, boosting the practice’s number of radiologists to 19.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Abesada, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 2001. As a fourth year medical student, he completed a rotation at the VA hospital in San Juan, gaining experience in interventional radiology. During his general surgery internship in 2002, Dr. Abesada took on an elective interventional radiology rotation at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he studied procedures such as uterine fibroid embolization and chemoembolization of liver tumors. After completing his radiology residency in 2006, Dr. Abesada pursued a fellowship in Vascular & Interventional Radiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he trained in various vascular and nonvascular interventions, including liver and renal tumor thermal ablation, embolization, chemoembolization (TACE), and others.
In 2007, Dr. Abesada joined VA Caribbean Health in San Juan, where he expanded his interventional radiology and oncology experience and received specialized training in image-guided biopsy, endovascular diagnoses and treatments, noninvasive vascular imaging, diagnostic neuroimaging and other practice areas.
In 2015 he became an associate professor of radiology and interventional radiology for the University of Puerto Rico radiology department.
Of his move to join RAO, Dr. Abesada says, “I’m proud to be part of the RAO team and grateful to have the opportunity to bring my experience to the local community.” Dr. Abesada relocated to Ocala with his wife, a clinical pharmacist, and their two children. Dr. Abesada is fluent in both English and Spanish. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues and assisting patients with their ongoing health, comfort and vitality.”
Dr. Abesada will begin practicing with RAO as of mid August.
